The fire was a thatched roof.

Neighbours were keeping the fire in check when the brigade arrived but it was spreading.

The brigades work was to prevent the spread to surrounding property and to tackle the fire by cutting a channel through the thatch.

No doubt there was some salvage work and since the thatch had to be taken off and wet down there would be hard work.

Much was saved but no cause is given
