Fire at Hurstbourne Tarrant

First mention of the number of horses committed to the run. Note that it needed two drivers.

The fire was quite serious involving a defective flue. It necessitated cutting away the panelling which is quite normal to gain access to the flues construction.

Today building construction regulations, enforced by building control department of the local authority, mitigate against this type of fire but are still not unknown especially in older buildings.
Sometimes many years after construction the cement rendering spalls from the flue and leaves joist ends exposed.
